Government says it targets to reduce child marriages in the country by 40% by the year 2020.

Ministry of Gender Permanent Secretary Auxilia Ponga says the current pilot projects initiated by the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) in Katete and Senanga districts aims to ensure that child marriages and early pregnancies are curbed.

Speaking during a courtesy call paid to Eastern Province Permanent Secretary Buleti Nsemukila yesterday, Dr Ponga said her ministry has launched the national strategic plan aimed at effectively reducing child marriages in the country.
